This is from the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest and I recommend that you check out the other fine examples of writing craftsmanship hidden there like little tasty chocolate eggs. Yum, chocolate.
BTW, I’m not sure how this happened, but it appears the linked webpage was authored in 1987. By Chimpanzees. Kudos to the author for nice use of the font tag. I can read the page just fine. From 1.2 miles away!
