I just got back from an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon. I’ve been having some knee pain over the years and I wanted to find out what the deal was with it. I few weeks back I went to buy a new bicycle and when I rode a tester around the parking lot at the store my knee twinged enough for me to be concerned. So I went to the orthopedic surgeon and got a x-ray, MRI, and a diagnosis. Turns out I have some minor cartilage damage under my right knee cap. The doctor said it’s okay for me to ride the bike. He said that it’s something I shouldn’t worry too much about and that some Advil should help. I should be careful, like I shouldn’t bend my knee all the way etc., but the jist was to go forth and exercise. Of course I should come back if it gets worse.
This is good news. I was worried I’d have to have a procedure or keep off of it and that I wouldn’t be able to exercise. I’ve been gearing up at a serious effort at shedding some pounds at now I have the go ahead from my pit crew.
Excellent.
Here’s the bike I have my eye on. It’s a “comfort” bike. These bikes used be called “hybrid” bikes. It’s basically got hefty shocks, a big seat, and the frame geometry and thus the sitting position is good for those of us not in the best of shape. I have a nice, but aging, mountain bike already, but it’s too hardcore for me now. I figure if I get into the biking, and I have a history of really enjoying biking, then it’s a shopping opportunity for a really tricked out bike later. The comfort bike, btw, is relatively inexpensive. I think around $500.00 or so.
Anyway, I was happy about the knee knews. That plus the new lens is making for a nice day! Now if it would just cool off outside…
