…In other life, I could be a long haul trucker. Driving for very long periods of time just doesn’t bother me. In fact I enjoy it. I got home last night at about 2:30am. I drove from Albuquerque (can ANYONE spell that?) to San Jose yesterday. Just over 1000 miles and 16 hours. I wanted to get home. I didn’t want to stay another night in a hotel by myself (this got old, fast). Plus I wasn’t sleepy so I just kept driving. The only thing that was annoying was my left elbow started hurting at about hour fourteen. I think this was from the repetition of steering with my left hand. Carpul-steeral. Insert rimshot here. Anyway, I tend to drive with my left arm in my lap – steering with my palm up on the bottom of the wheel. Still a bit sore from that. I did pay the price for this drive though, as today I’m nearly catatonic. Drool is a problem. Put my ear up to a seashell and I hear road noise and radar detector chirps.
So the truck kicks ass. It was a pleasure to drive. Through most of Arizona and some of the flatter and deserted areas of Texas and CA I set the cruise control at ninety (speed limit was mostly 75 out of CA). I could have gone 100, easily. The truck drives itself. That plus the Nav and Sirius satellite radio and I knew exactly where I was and was entertained the whole time.
I took a whole passle of pictures. I’ll post them later. But I’m home safe and sound, and more importantly, so is the truck.
