My Vista machines at home won’t go to sleep. This is a new problem. Maybe an update broke it? I scrutinized the advanced settings in the power control panel, and the settings are correct there. For example, the multimedia settings indicate that the machine can sleep. Anyone know what’s up? Anyone else having this problem?

There was a bug in the HID mouse driver. If you are using laser mouse, connect it and download Windows update (optional).
Mine goes to sleep but, screen is dead when it wakes up. I can hear the applications loading up behind though… had to do a hard restart to get it back to normal…
Mine just started doing this as well. I’ve even tried setting the sleep timer to 1 min w/o luck. It will sleep if I force it to on the start menu though.
Actually, it seems to be working for me now that I manually forced it to sleep once.
Pretty buggy stuff. I hit a key when it was going into sleep mode thinking that it might cancel the action, but it still went to sleep. While asleep, my keyboard would not awaken it… clicking the mouse button brought it back alive.
I’ve been having problems with resuming from sleep – my laptop always locked up.
I learned the hard way (reinstalling vista) that this is caused not by vista but by badly written drivers – starting with clean install and installing one-by-one, i discovered that Elbysoft Virtual CD drive locs on resume, current Ati tray tool does that, and at least one other thing which I don’t remember does it.
But now it’s working OK, although I’d really welcome some debugging functionality (you can’t find the offenders with windows debugger, because when the PC locks, error reports arent written to dist of course).
It would be great to have a file with ‘now I will load …, if you read this it means it must have failed’
Mine just started 2 or 3 days ago. it never did it before but after getting a blue screen of death from a program, i reset my computer as it messed up javascript… after getting factory defaults i updated it… it worked for a long time and then boom… no longer will sleep. when i put it to sleep, no matter how i do it, the screen goes off but the hard drive and everything keeps running, causing my computer to get very, very hot. i was worried about it and shutting it off every time i got off but i can’t keep doing this because i use it alot and need to be able to get quick access. is there any way i can fix this? i have absolutely nothing plugged into my usb drives and the only program i have that i didn’t was itunes…
