One of the coolest motorsports photos I’ve ever seen

This is a picture of Nico Rossberg in his Williams F1 Car during the French Grand Prix in Magny-Cours. You can see the photographer in the picture. Looks like he’s shooting with a 600mm lens on a monopod. If you’re wondering about the crazy helmet, this is one of the pit crew (I’m not sure which team though). They have fully enclosed system complete with oxygen in case of a pit fire.

I found this picture here. The photographer was Andrew Ferraro from LAT Photographic. Nice job Andrew!!

    Holy Crap, Formula 1

I’m watching practice for the Australian Grand-Prix. I’ve been reading about the testing and stuff offseason for months and now the 2008 season is here. Of course I’m a Ferrari fan and a Kimi Raikkonnen fan (current world champion). It looks like the top two teams will be Ferrari and McLaren. I’ll also be very interested to see what happens with Williams and BMW. Let’s see what Nico Rosberg and Nick Hidefeld can do. Lots to watch. I’m just stunned the season is here already. More later. Must watch now.

    Nelson Piquet Jr

Here’s a beautiful shot of Nelson Piquet Jr in his Renault Formula 1 car. Nelson is one of the rookies for the 2008 and is partnered with Fernando Alonso. Only a few more weeks until the season starts with the Australian Grand Prix. I’m so excited - I can’t wait!

    Nice F1 shot

I like this shot. I believe this is Giancarlo Fisichella testing his new Force India car. Fisichella used to drive for Renault, but got ousted this year with Fernando Alonso’s return to the team. He wasn’t the only veteran that lost his ride for 2008. Ralf Shumacher lost his ride at Toyota, and is now completely out of F1.

    Kimi Raikkonen (Formula 1)

I’m a Ferrari, Kimi (The Iceman) Raikkonen fan. He won the world championship last year by one point in a edge of the seat final race. I didn’t think he’d pull it off, but he did, capping off an exciting and bizarre year in Formula One.

Not much is going in in F1 right now, just a bunch of testing. All the teams have their new cars. One of the big changes for 2008 is the banning of traction control. This is very controversial, but I think it will make for more exciting races since everything will be up to the driver. Of course some feel this is a step backwards in safety, but I say who says F1 is supposed to be safe?

Here’s a very cool picture of Kimi sliding through a corner in his 2007 title winning Ferrari…

I can’t wait for the season to start. I really really am hoping for the races to be broadcast in high definition this year. Drool.

I lost the bet on qualifying for Japenese grand prix…

It was Hamilton, Alonzo, Raikkonen. I owe Chloe a bacon cookie.

    This picture is from here.

The podium for the race was Hamilton, Kovalainen, Raikkonen. I was happy for Kovalainen but dissappointed Hamilton won.

    This picture is from here.

Kimi Raikkonen is still mathmatically in reach of the world championship. But perhaps not humanly in reach. I’m rooting for him anyway. Looks like Hamilton is going to win it. I think the Chinese grand prix was the most frustrating race I’ve ever watched. Ferrari made a bad mistake at the beginning with tire choices. Alonzo crashed (rather see him win than Hamilton). Vettel crashed into Webber. It was nuts and several points I was yelling at my TV.

Note “Varlen” on flickr has some awesome pictures from this race. I’m not sure he took them though, so they may be stolen from the original photographer.
