Not much is going in in F1 right now, just a bunch of testing. All the teams have their new cars. One of the big changes for 2008 is the banning of traction control. This is very controversial, but I think it will make for more exciting races since everything will be up to the driver. Of course some feel this is a step backwards in safety, but I say who says F1 is supposed to be safe?

I can’t wait for the season to start. I really really am hoping for the races to be broadcast in high definition this year. Drool.

The podium for the race was Hamilton, Kovalainen, Raikkonen. I was happy for Kovalainen but dissappointed Hamilton won.

Kimi Raikkonen is still mathmatically in reach of the world championship. But perhaps not humanly in reach. I’m rooting for him anyway. Looks like Hamilton is going to win it. I think the Chinese grand prix was the most frustrating race I’ve ever watched. Ferrari made a bad mistake at the beginning with tire choices. Alonzo crashed (rather see him win than Hamilton). Vettel crashed into Webber. It was nuts and several points I was yelling at my TV.

This is definately going to be the last straw for me going completely HD. I need to find an affordable solution though. If I have to go to Comcast, fine, as long as I have a decent way to do multiroom HD. I *want* a Windows Media Center setup so I can use my Xbox 360s as media extenders, but the whole cable card plus WMC situation is completely out of control. This would cost me *thousands* of dollars and makes me feel, ahem, bent over a table. I don’t think I can do this on principal. We’ll see.

Here’s the thing though. CSI would be cool in HD. F1 in HD would change my life.

I thought this picture was really nice, though too bad Mr. Red Shorts is in it and the yellow lid from the fuel filler is flipped up, but still, you can really see the new stunning livery on the car (paint). Check out the left front tire. It’s been abused. The white line on the right front tire means he’s on the softest of the tires (you have two choices, hard or soft), and the fact that the white line is worn off the left front tire is amazing.

His head is about eighteen inches off the ground. The car weighs about 1300 pounds with him in it and has about 750hp. The drivers can experience up to five gees under breaking and after about seventy mph could be driven upside down on the top of a tunnel because the car has so much “down force”. The cars are like little fighter planes with the wings pushing the car down instead of providing lift.

I’m fascinated by the whole thing, including all the crazy politics.

Ferrari unviels their new F1 race car, the Ferrari 248 F1. This year is all about the v8 (instead of the v10). Here’s a shot with the Ferrari drivers Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa. I can’t wait for the new season to start up. The season should be interesting with the new engine and with Ferrari officially dethroned last year and all the driver switches.
