Tor’s new website has gone live here. Tor is a book publisher specializing in science fiction and fantasy. A few of my favorite authors publish through them, for example John Scalzi and Charles Stross. Both have a couple of free short stories available here for your enjoyment here. Scalzi’s is After the Coup, set in the the Old Man’s War universe. Stross’ is called Down on the Farm.

Note that you can download these stories in a variety of formats like pdf and mobi. The mobi version works fine on the Kindle if you send it to yourself in email.

Looks like BSG will end after its fourth season. Not surprising really. I don’t think it’s been as good lately. Too many scenes of everyone getting hammered and not enough action.

The Sci-Fi Channel announced that they’re developing a prequel to Battlestar Galactica call Caprica. Sweet.

It returns. I’m talking about Adama and crew, Cylons, spaceships, and basically gettin’ our Galactica on.

It’s back January six. That be tomorrow, friends. Unless you’re not reading this today, so maybe I wrote this yesterday and it’s on today, or it was on yesterday and I wrote this the day before yesterday. If I wrote this in the more distant past that that, then this is probably old and crusty news (eeew), and you haven’t even read this far, and if you have, then you’re probably as confused as I seem to be. Um. Yeah. Hmm. Insert awkward pause. Look, a kitten!

Last night B. and I finished watching the entire FireFly series on DVD. I can truly say that something about this series touched me and I’m so sad that it was cancelled. Good thing the mindless corporate drones killed this show. May you spend enternity strapped into a chair and forced to watch home videos of men getting kicked in the crotch and kids saying the darndest things. That and Momma’s family. You evil bastards.

I just don’t understand why something this good would be killed and all the other mind numbing and worthless poo is left on the air. Have you sat down and randomly watched prime time TV lately? I don’t mean your Tivoed favorites, the few shows that are worth something, not the ones that you’ve sought out and tested and formed a connection with, I’m talking tuning into something that makes you taste bile and drool as you feel your intelligence and connection with humanity diminish into corporate sponsored road kill. For this they killed Firefly. Does that seem right to you?

The goods news is that Serenity’s release to theaters is not far off. I hope this movie will do well and spark the return of the TV series. Please, for god’s sake, go see the movie when it comes out. I know I will, and that’s something I never do anymore. To me supporting this movie is worth the sticky floors, cell phones, talkers, mouth breathers, snack rattlers, and true morons who bring infants to movies.

Geez, I think it’s time for me to move to my rickety shack in the woods and finish my manifesto.

So once upon a time, there was this show called FireFly. At first glance it had a swashbuckling cowboys in space vibe that was a little disconcerting or something and I know it turned some people off, but I think that vibe was only skin deep. Once you absorbed the whole gestalt of the show, it was great. The characters were interesting and there was something about the dialog that was riveting. I was really enjoying it. And then it was canceled. The bastards.

Much to my surprise and delight, a new movie is in the works and boy howdie yeehaw the trailer looks great. I stumbled on this by accident looking for a trailer for Peter Jackson’s new King Kong movie. Anyway, the movie is called Serenity (which is the name of the spaceship in the series).

I recommend viewing the high def trailer, which you can get here for Windows Media format (click trailer then high definition to download it), or you can view it in high definition on the Apple website here, the only kicker is you need to install a pre-release version of Quicktime 7.

Either way it LOOKS fantastic.
